To honor breast cancer survivors, New York City Dermatologist Dr. Arielle Kauvar, whose work has been featured on this blog, is offering a very special service for women who have gone through radiation treatments.

Dr. Kauvar is graciously donating her time to offer free laser removal of medical tattoos used to guide . Many times, women may want these small freckle-like reminders of their treatment removed. The markings may also be visible above a low-cut dress, or bathing suit.

Yet another problem that must plague a number of women that I had no idea existed. That is a kind offer.

That is awesome that there are Dr's out there that are willing to give back to those that have gone through so much already. A BIG Thank you and May you be blessed for what you have given.

I wish I had known about it sooner. I am just starting to investigate getting my tattoos removed. I wish I had asked more questions before agreeing to them.

I was told by my oncologist that the tattoos, tiny as mine are, should be kept to make other (god forbid) radiologists aware that i had a dose of ..ok chemo brain here.. um..let's use radiation for the word now.. Am I wrong?

Good morning, I have the four standard black dots and read that when Dr. Kauver did offer free service she did so on one day. I've been told the removal may take up to six visits. Can you help me understand?

Thank you,

Jackie Bird

Jackie, Thanks for writing. I'd advise you to call Dr. Kauvar's office and ask them your specific questions. Her office number is 212-249-9440. Good luck!

That is actually a great thing. I mean, most of the people do not like to be reminded about their dark past, which gave them some sleepless nights and unbearable pain. And when comes to cancer, people are more willing to forget about their treatment period. So, it’s actually a boon.
